FIDE Presidential Election 2022

The 2022 FIDE Presidential election was held on August 7, 2022, at the FIDE General Assembly in Chennai, India. Each Member Federation represented in the General Assembly and in the assemblies of FIDE Continents had one vote. List of FIDE Member Federations having Voting Powers (June 7, 2022)

Arkady Dvorkovich has been reelected for a second term as President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) with 157 votes, against 16 for his electoral opponent, the Ukrainian chess Grandmaster Andrii Baryshpolets. A third candidate, the French Bachar Kouatly, withdrew his candidacy after giving his speech before the voting started. Five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand, who was part of Dvorkovich’s ticket, is the new FIDE Deputy President.

The Electoral Commission held an on-line meeting on 23 July 2022. FIDE Offices publish the report of this meeting and announce that the Electoral Commission, in accordance with art. 3.4 of the Electoral Rules, approved the following final lists of the Member Federations having right to vote and of voters.

The Electoral Commission held a meeting in Chennai on the 4th of August 2022, to discuss and decide some complaints and requests received after the publication of the final lists of voters and candidacies.

The meeting was attended by all members of the ELC: Roberto Rivello (chairman), Francois Strydom and Lakhdar Mazouz.
